Exell Foam - DPS Styrofoam Blanks - Shipping Info

We’ve got foam! At last after months of anticipation we now have foam to sell.  We are carrying Exell Blanks and DPS Foam.  Exell blanks are a high quality polyurethane blank that has good cell structure and is a bright white. DPS Foam is a high quality virgin EPS foam with shapes based on Clark Blanks rocker templates and outlines.  More on each foam below.

Exell Foam Blanks are a bright white polyurethane foam that is suitable for use with unsaturated polyester resins and epoxy resins.  Excell Foam is a uniform density foam, which alleviates concerns related to over shaping.  Our first shipment contains 7 different sizes, however we have already placed an order for our 2nd container which will have 14 different sizes in it.  Additionally Exell Foam is working with some of the leading shapers in the industry to develop a full range of sizes.  Foam density is similar to Clark Foam Supergreen

News as of 6 April 2006: We just returned from a trip to the Exell factory overseas and have exciting developments to share.  Exell Foam is making rapid progress in expanding the selection and service of what they provide to the market.

Exell is working on bringing 2 more densities of foam to market, so that they will cover a range similar to what Clark covered with Supergreen, Superblue, and Ultralight.  They should have this technology ready around mid-May.

We are able to order custom rockers.

Exell Foam has partnered with some of the top shapers in the industry to have them shape plugs for blanks in their fields of specialty, one of which is Donald Takyama. Again it will probably be mid-May before the molds are done and into production but we are excited at the prospect of getting blanks from these shapers.

We’ve learned a lot in the past few months since Clark shut down.  One of the areas that we have gained some knowledge in is with Styrofoam Blanks.  We are now carrying DPS Foam EPS blanks.  DPS Foam blows billets of virgin EPS that are smaller in size than billets blown by large EPS foam users.  The key differences between their foam and somebody elses are very important.  DPS foam is virgin, with no recycled foam in the blank, what this means is that quality is very high and that the densities are accurate.  Other foam billet blowers will throw in scrap from their cutting operations and often have a +/- 10% variance in density.  For industries such as homebuilding this isn’t important, however for high performance surf craft this is critical.  DPS blows their EPS into smaller billets.  This too is very critical and affects the quality of the finished product in both its strength and in its ability to not absorb water.  EPS foam consists of styrofoam beads that are packed into a mold and then melted together by injecting steam into the mold.  When a large billet of foam is blown the steam has to travel a great distance and often the material in the middle does not get bonded properly. Improper bonding of the beads makes shaping harder (increases tearout) and allows water to wick through the board.  By blowing smaller billets DPS Foam improves the bonded strength of the foam, its shapeablility, and water resistance.  DPS foam has based its shapes off of key Clark Foam blanks.  These blanks are suitable only for use with epoxy resins.
