Hollow Wood Surfboard Building Workshop with Paul Jensen

We just received this from Paul Jensen a longtime customer and great guy. He'll be putting on a 5 day wood surfboard building workshop in the Seattle area in late February. If you've been wanting to build a hollow wood surfboard but are intimidated by it this would be a great opportunity to learn from a master. Paul's e-mail address is: hollowsurfboards@comcast.net

SUP- Paddleboard Building Demo Night Feb 18th

We will be hosting a demo night on Feb 18th from 6 to 8pm that will cover the different aspects of Stand Up Paddleboard building.
We will discuss the various types of materials available from foam cores to hollow wood kits. We will also go over different fin options and fin system installation, including doing some actual fin box installations.
While we are predominantly focusing on stand up paddleboards, many of the techniques that we will cover also apply to surfboard building and the laminating techniques are very simular to those used in kayak and canoe building.
Come join us for an evening of fun! Feb 18th, 2010 6-8pm, 11824 Watertank Rd, Burlington WA 98233

Customer Spotlight - Ken Briegleb's Kayak

We recently received this from our customer Ken Briegleb in Southern Oregon:

Ken writes:

"To All at Fiberglass Supply,
Thanks for all your help and great service.
I Finished my Kayak October 8th, 70 days start to finish.
As you can see great stability for an old guy- but still goes fast.
18ft long, 15" beam, wt. 42lbs. Side Floats come off with four screws. Paint base coat clear coat.
I will highly recommend you guys.
Best Regards,
Ken Briegleb"

Ken we appreciate the feedback and your project looks great! This particular boat is carbon fiber composite and when Ken ordered the materials he indicated that he was looking to beat some paddlers that were younger than him! Ken hasn't stopped with the carbon boat either, he called back this week and ordered supplies for a wood strip boat.

If you have a project that you'd like to share with us drop us a note. E-mail, snail-mail, UPS, or any other way you can we'd love to hear from you and see your success.

New Year

Wow, it is 2010 already!

We've got a lot coming up this year at Fiberglass Supply, we are planning demo's throughout the year starting with a Thursday night demo on February 18th and one on April 8th. The demo on Feb. 8th will be surfboard/SUP related and we are interested in hearing what you would like us to cover. The April 8th demo will be on stich and glue boat building where we will be working on an 8' pram.
I finished up Stinger in time for The Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend last fall. It is super fast and I love it. I still need to put on the coaming and the rudder system but I was able to get in some great fall paddling before the lack of daylight hours put a crimp in the afterwork activities. Here are some shots of it from Wooden Boat.

We'll have more to come in the next few weeks so check back soon!
